OK, thanks for the comments. A similar criticism was leveled at Goldstrom on goheavy. My reply would be more or less the same.."No offensive guys but your views are rather myopic. It IS of coarse about mass marketing of the sport. David Goldstrom has made this his personal mission to promote the sport via TV and he works VERY hard and gets his hands very dirty in the production of a prime time broadcast to Europe (Europeans)and worlds. David Goldstrom is quite aware of the nuances of OL; after all his usual co-host is David Morgan....probably one of the best lifters of the "free world" in the 1980's (4th 1988 Olympics 82.5kg). We'd all love it if they made the production for coaches but our numbers are in the 100's not 100's of millions. Randy knows a LOT more than he articulates on TV. Weightlifting coaches like myself would love a hi-tech analysis of each lift from three angles from Ivan Abajiev. This analysis would bore 99% of the audience. There is also the fact that the production is a live broadcast, which gives the commentators about a minute to show a replay and comment for a few seconds before making comments about the next lifter coming onto the stage. There has to be a certain flow. Maybe they need to do a detailed analysis of the big lifts (like football or hockey) at the break between snatch and CJ. Perhaps Randy isn't the ideal cohost, but for now Goldstrom hasn't given him the ax or found a suitable replacement.

David Goldstrom does a very good job but I am tired of listening to Strossen and I am sure that there are many others who feel the same way. He is presumably supposed to provide the "color commentary" and thus lend some technical commentary. Unfortunately, his knowledge of Olympic lifting is obviously superficial at best, as is surely apparent to anyone who is an Olympic lifter, as I have been. There must be some knowledgeable
people who would be interested in that job.

But you do a great job with your photos, Rob. :-)

Great competition in the 105 class...physique-wise, Klokov has that 'almost bodybuilder' while Akkaev looks built to lift heavy weights..

Chigishev is not included on the IWF final entry list-any information on his whereabouts? I agree that if healthy he would give Salimi a run for his money...he has beaten Salimi in the snatch and they might be equal in the C&J...
Awesome website BTW..

Rob,
Keep up the good work. I was suppose to go to Paris but, at the last minute I could not.
So... keep us well informed. I especially like your insights behind the scene. Again fill us with memorable shots of the various training sessions prior to Worlds. I think most lifters and fans love this approach as well as the actual competition. Have fun!!!!!!!!!
